Faith and Business Aren't Opposites — Here's Why

There's a lie that circulates in both church circles and business circles, and it sounds different depending on who's telling it.

In church circles, it sounds like: "Be careful with that business stuff. Money changes people."

In business circles, it sounds like: "Leave your faith at the door. This is about the bottom line."

Both are lies. And both are keeping women like us small.

The False Dichotomy

I've lived on both sides of this false divide. I've been in rooms where talking about faith made people uncomfortable. And I've been in rooms where talking about profit made people uncomfortable.

Here's what I've learned: faith and business aren't opposites. They're partners.

Your faith isn't something that holds your business back. It's the foundation that keeps it standing. And your business isn't something that corrupts your faith. It's one of the most powerful vehicles for living it out.

What Scripture Actually Says About Business

Let's look at what the Bible actually says about work, profit, and enterprise:

• Proverbs 31 woman — She's a businesswoman. She buys and sells, she manages, she profits, and she's called virtuous.
• The parable of the talents — God rewards the servants who multiplied what they were given. He rebukes the one who buried it out of fear.
• Colossians 3:23 — "Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."

Scripture doesn't shy away from business. It gives us a framework for doing it with integrity, generosity, and purpose.

The Integration, Not the Balance

I don't try to "balance" faith and business. I integrate them. Here's what that looks like:

In my planning: I ask God what He wants to build through me, not just what I want to build for myself.

In my pricing: I charge what I'm worth because undervaluing what God gave me to offer isn't humility — it's fear dressed up as piety.

In my profit: I give generously because abundance flows through me, not just to me.

In my strategy: I build systems that serve people well, because excellence honors God.

The Women Who Get This Right

The most powerful women I know aren't choosing between faith and business. They're letting their faith inform their business and their business express their faith.

They're the women who pray over their launches. Who tithe from their profits. Who treat their team members with dignity. Who create offers that actually help people, not just extract money from them.

They're not less spiritual because they're profitable. And they're not less professional because they're spiritual.
